NeoPhotonics is a leading provider of photonic integrated circuit-based modules, components and subsystems for use in optical communications networks. Our products, and those produced by our customers, are used by telecommunications and cable service providers to deploy advanced networks for video, voice and other data services at high data transmission rates and low costs. Our photonic integrated circuits (PICs) combine hundreds of photonic devices on one silicon substrate, thereby dramatically reducing cost and size and increasing reliability and power efficiency. We design and manufacture PICs using our planar lightwave technology and our micro-electrical-mechanical device (MEMS) technology, along with our nanoscale design, materials, fabrication and metrology. NeoPhotonics™ markets are driven by the need for higher bandwidth and lower cost as digital video, multimedia, music and other broadband services become ubiquitous and bandwidth consumption continues to more than double every year. User-generated video content and rapidly growing digital video services including internet-based and high-definition video (IPTV and HDTV) and mobile video is significantly increasing bandwidth demand. In order to accommodate this bandwidth increase, it is necessary for the data transmission rates, reconfigurability and monitoring capabilities that heretofore could only be afforded in the long-haul and core metro sectors of the network to be proliferated in the access and edge portions of the network reaching out to very near the customer. It will be necessary to provision, dynamically reconfigure and maintain the access and edge portions of the network remotely because of the high costs associated with “truck rolls.”

NeoPhotonics products include a broad line of fiber-to-the-home central office, customer premise and outside plant modules, components and subsystems, many of which incorporate our PICs. Specific products include triplexer and biplexer FTTH transceivers for each of the leading optical networking standards applicable to the world’s major market areas, including gigabit passive optical networks (GPON). We supply each of the leading types of ROADMs, ultra-widely tunable lasers, dense wavelength division multiplexing modules and related products for long-haul, metro, edge and access applications. In addition, we supply analogous products to telecom fixed wavelength, data communications and cable TV markets.

NeoPhotonics has built a deep and multi-faceted technology base in order to design and manufacture its photonic integrated circuits with predictable well-characterized performance and low manufacturing costs. The NeoPhotonics™ technology addresses and solves a range of interrelated problems which are similar in scope to the range of problems that were mastered to create the electronic integrated circuit industry. NeoPhotonics has extensive expertise in the technology domains important for the photonic integrated circuit business, including Planar Lightwave technology, Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems technology, the complex interaction of precision-doped materials, geometries and dimensions to nanoscale tolerances and complex thermal management that must be optimized to achieve stable, high manufacturing yield and consistent high performance for our PIC products. Every PIC is fully tested and characterized using our proprietary equipment before shipment or incorporation into our products.

NeoPhotonics manufactures its products in San Jose and Newark, California and Shenzhen, China. ISO 9001:2000 certifications are available on most products. Engineering and R&D are carried out at each location. Sales offices are located in the U.S, China, and Europe. The company has approximately 2000 employees.
